How to Learn Noorani Qaida Online: A Step-by-Step Guide for Indian Parents

Noorani Qaida is the first book most children use when they start learning the Quran, and it is just as useful for adults who never learned to read Arabic. For many families in India, the hard part isn’t deciding to start. It’s finding a patient teacher nearby at a time that fits around school, tuition and work. Live online Quran classes solve that by bringing a one-to-one teacher to your home on a laptop, tablet or phone.

This guide explains what Noorani Qaida covers, how online lessons work step by step, how you can support your child at home, and what classes cost, so you can start with confidence.

What Is Noorani Qaida?

Noorani Qaida is a beginner’s primer for reading the Arabic script of the Quran. It is traditionally credited to Maulana Noor Muhammad Ludhianvi, from Ludhiana in Punjab, which is one reason it is so familiar in Indian homes and madrasas. Lesson by lesson, it teaches the Arabic letters, how they sound, how they join together, and how vowel marks change their sound.

The goal is simple: by the end of the Qaida, a student can look at a word in the Quran and read it correctly on their own. That is the foundation for everything that follows, including Nazra (reading the Quran fluently), Tajweed (the rules of correct recitation) and, for some students, Hifz (memorisation).

Who Should Start With Noorani Qaida?

  • Children starting the Quran. Many families begin once a child can recognise shapes and sit for a short lesson. There is no fixed age; the teacher simply adjusts the pace. (Parents asking about timing can also read our guide on the right age to start learning Quran.)
  • Adults who never learned to read Arabic. It is never too late, and a one-to-one class means no one else is watching you learn.
  • Readers who want to fix the basics. If you or your child read the Quran but mix up similar letters or skip vowel marks, revisiting the Qaida is the quickest way to correct those habits.

What Your Child Will Learn: The Main Stages

Different printed editions vary slightly, but every Noorani Qaida follows the same path from single letters to full words. We have also written a closer look at what each Noorani Qaida lesson teaches.

1. The Arabic letters (Huroof Mufradat)

The student learns to recognise each letter and say it from the right place in the mouth and throat. The teacher listens closely here, because a sound learned wrongly at this stage is hard to unlearn later.

2. Joined letters (Huroof Murakkabat)

Arabic letters change shape depending on whether they come at the start, middle or end of a word. This stage trains the eye to spot a letter in any form.

3. Short vowels: Fatha, Kasra and Damma

These small marks above and below the letters give the sounds “a”, “i” and “u”. Once they are learned, the student starts reading real syllables.

4. Tanween, Sukoon and Shaddah

Tanween (double vowel marks), Sukoon (a letter with no vowel) and Shaddah (a doubled letter) complete the set of marks used in the Quran.

5. Long vowels (Madd) and reading words

The final lessons cover the letters that stretch a sound and bring everything together, so the student reads complete words and short phrases taken from the Quran.

How Online Noorani Qaida Classes Work, Step by Step

Step 1: Book your 3 free trial classes

Start by booking 3 free trial classes. The teacher meets your child, checks where they are starting from, and you see exactly how a lesson runs. You pay only after the trial, once you are happy with it.

Step 2: Set up a quiet learning corner

You need a laptop, tablet or smartphone with a stable internet connection, headphones with a microphone if possible, and a copy of Noorani Qaida (printed or on screen). A quiet corner away from the TV makes a big difference, especially for younger children.

Step 3: Learn live, one to one

In each class the teacher shares the Qaida page on screen, points to the letters, reads them aloud and asks the student to repeat. Because it is one to one, every mistake is heard and corrected straight away, and the lesson moves at your child’s pace. The full course outline, plans and timings are on our Noorani Qaida online course page.

Step 4: Pick a schedule that fits your day

Our classes run 24/7, so you can choose any time that suits your family in IST: early morning before school, after school and tuition, late evening once parents are home from work, or weekends. You agree on the timing during the free trial.

Step 5: Practise a little every day

A short daily revision of the last lesson does more than one long session a week. The teacher will tell you which page or line to practise before the next class.

Step 6: Move on to Nazra, then Tajweed

When the teacher sees that your child can read new words smoothly on their own, they move on to Nazra Quran, reading directly from the Quran. Tajweed and, for interested students, Hifz can follow later. When that time comes, our beginner’s guide to Tajweed rules is a good place to see what lies ahead.

Male or Female Teacher?

We have both male and female Quran teachers available at any time of day. Many parents prefer a female teacher for daughters or very young children, and many women prefer one for themselves (here’s more on finding a female Quran teacher online). Just mention your preference when you book the trial. Comparing a few options first? These 10 questions to ask before choosing an online Quran teacher will help.

Tips for Indian Parents to Support Your Child

  • Sit in on the first few classes. You will see how the teacher works and can help your child settle in.
  • Keep the same time every day. A fixed slot, planned around school timings and tuition, quickly becomes a habit.
  • Keep it short and positive. Praise effort, not just speed. Young learners do best when they look forward to class.
  • Listen for letters that sound alike in Urdu and Hindi. Many of us say ث (tha) like س (seen), ق (qaf) like ک (kaf), and ذ (dhal), ز (zay), ض (dad) and ظ (zha) all as “z”. In Arabic these are different sounds, so ask the teacher to give these letters extra attention.
  • Remove distractions. Silence notifications and keep games closed during class.
