Online Islamic Classes in India: What a Live Quran Class Is Really Like

“Online Islamic classes” can mean almost anything on the internet: a recorded lecture, a WhatsApp group, a weekend talk for kids, or a live lesson with a teacher. If you are in India and searching for one, it helps to decide first what kind of class you want, because the right answer for a curious adult is not the right answer for a seven-year-old who has never opened a Qaida.

Here is how we think about it, and where our own online Islamic classes fit. Short version: we teach the Quran only, live and one-to-one.

Live classes vs recorded courses

Recorded material is good for listening and learning about Islam at your own pace. It cannot correct you. If the goal is to read or recite the Quran properly, you need someone to hear you. That is why our classes are live and one-to-one: 30 minutes, five days a week, with the same teacher.

What a live Quran class looks like

  • The teacher greets the student and revises yesterday’s lesson.
  • The student reads the new lesson aloud. The teacher stops and corrects each slip.
  • A short recap and what to practise before the next class.

For a child that might be three new letter shapes in the Noorani Qaida course. For an adult in Nazra classes it might be a page of the Quran read slowly and correctly.

Muslim classes online for kids

Children do best with short, daily lessons and a patient teacher. Most start with Noorani Qaida and move on to Nazra; some later begin Hifz. Our online Quran classes for kids in India are built around school timings, and parents can sit nearby for the first few classes.

Online Islamic classes for adults and beginners

Many adults never had the chance to learn properly, or learned to read quickly without Tajweed. It is very common to start again at the Qaida. There is no audience in a one-to-one class, which makes it much easier. If you want to correct your recitation, online Tajweed classes are the next step. For a wider look at beginner options, see online Islamic courses for beginners.

Islamic studies online: what we do not teach

We do not offer fiqh, aqeedah, seerah or Arabic grammar courses. If you need those, choose a separate course for them. Our comparison of Islamic studies courses and Quran classes explains the difference so you can plan both.

How progress is checked

In a one-to-one class there is no separate exam day. The teacher hears the student every day, so progress is checked every day. For children, the teacher can give parents a short update on what was covered and what to practise. Adults usually just feel it: the page that took ten minutes now takes five, and the teacher stops you less often.

If you are a parent, ask for a quick word with the teacher every couple of weeks. Two minutes is enough to know whether your child is revising at home or needs a nudge.

One family, different classes

It is common for a mother, a son and a daughter in the same house to learn at different levels. The son might be in the Qaida, the daughter in Nazra, and the mother working on Tajweed with a female teacher at 10 pm. Because each class is one-to-one and booked separately, nobody holds anyone else back, and each person gets their own slot in IST.

What you need at home

A phone, tablet or laptop with a camera, a steady internet connection, and a quiet corner. Earphones help in a busy house. A printed Qaida or a mushaf is useful, though the teacher can also share the page on screen. Our setup checklist covers the rest.
