Kolkata’s Muslim families, from Park Circus, Rajabazar and Metiabruz to Topsia, Garden Reach and the suburbs, have long sent their children to the neighbourhood maktab. Today, many still want that grounding in the Quran, but school, tuition and traffic leave little room for an extra trip every day.
Our online Quran classes in Kolkata give your child, or you, a live one-to-one teacher at home, at a time you choose, 24/7 in IST.
Class timings that fit a Kolkata day
Kolkata’s day starts early: Fajr comes earlier here than in western India, and many families are up before 5 am. That makes a class straight after Fajr a natural fit for school children. Evening tuition is a big part of Kolkata student life, so families often place the Quran class either before tuition in the late afternoon or after dinner.
In the monsoon, when streets waterlog and travel is hard, an online class keeps the routine going.
| Time (IST) | Who usually picks it |
|---|---|
| After Fajr, about 5:00 to 6:30 am | School children before the day starts |
| 4:00 to 6:00 pm | Before evening tuition |
| 9:00 pm onwards | Working adults and ladies |
These are only examples. We teach 24/7, seven days a week, and you choose your own days and time.
Language and the mushaf
Teachers explain in Urdu, Hindi or English. Many Kolkata families speak Bengali or a mix of Bengali, Urdu and Hindi at home; children usually follow Hindi or Urdu explanations easily, and teachers keep instructions simple. The Quran is always read in Arabic from an Indo-Pak script mushaf, the style common in Kolkata homes.
Who learns with us in Kolkata
We teach young children starting Noorani Qaida, students who learned at a maktab and want to perfect Tajweed, Hifz students, and adults who want to read fluently. Ladies can ask for a female teacher.
Bengali-speaking learners sometimes find certain Arabic sounds new, especially the throat letters and the difference between the heavy and light letters. These are practised slowly, one at a time, until they sit right.
Courses
The same four Quran courses run in every city: Noorani Qaida online for beginners, Nazra Quran online for fluent reading, online Tajweed classes for correct recitation, and online Hifz classes for memorisation. Families can also read about our Quran classes for kids and Quran classes for ladies, with female teachers on request.
Classes are live on Zoom or Skype. The teacher shares the Quran page on screen, listens to every word and corrects mistakes as they happen.
