Search for a “Quran academy near me” in most Indian cities and you get a mixed list: a madrasa with a long waiting list, a coaching centre that teaches Quran on weekends, a tutor’s number on a notice board, and a few online academies whose websites all say roughly the same thing. It is hard to tell from the outside which one will actually get your child, or you, reading properly.
This guide is about the online side of that list. It explains how an online Quran academy in India usually works from the first message to the regular class, what to ask before you pay, and how our own online Quran classes in India are set up. We are Online Islamic Institute, and we would rather you choose carefully than choose quickly.
Local academy or online academy: what really changes
A good local academy has real strengths. Your child sits in front of a teacher, there is a fixed routine, and other children around make it feel like school. If one exists near you, at a time that suits you, with a teacher who corrects every mistake, that is a fine choice.
An online academy changes three things. The teacher no longer has to be in your neighbourhood, so you can ask for the kind of teacher you want, including a female teacher. The class time is set around your day instead of the academy’s timetable. And the class is usually one-to-one, so the teacher hears the student read for the whole lesson instead of a few minutes in a group.
What does not change is the work itself: letters, then reading, then correct recitation, then, for some, memorisation. Any academy, online or not, should be able to tell you clearly where you will start and what comes next.
Seven questions to ask any online Quran academy
- Is the class one-to-one or a group on video? A group of ten on a video call is harder than a group of ten in a room. Ask directly.
- What exactly do you teach? Some academies list a dozen subjects. If you want Quran reading, check that Qaida, Nazra and Tajweed are taught properly, not squeezed in.
- Can I choose the time, and change it later? School timetables and office shifts change. Find out how flexible the academy is.
- Is a female teacher available? For many families in India this decides everything, especially for girls and for adult women.
- How do you check the starting level? A beginner placed in Nazra, or a fluent reader held back in the Qaida, wastes months.
- What are the full fees, and for how many days a week? Get the monthly figure in rupees and the number of classes it covers.
- Can I try before I pay? A few trial classes tell you more than any website, including this one.
If you are still deciding between an academy and a single private teacher, our comparison of an Islamic institute or a private Quran tutor goes through that choice in more detail.
How joining works with us, step by step
Here is the honest version of what happens when a family in India contacts us:
- You send a WhatsApp message or fill in the form with the learner’s age, current level and the times that suit you, in IST.
- We arrange the first free trial class at one of those times, with a male or female teacher as you prefer.
- In that class the teacher listens to the student read, or teaches the first letters, and suggests where to start: Qaida, Nazra, Tajweed or Hifz.
- You take two more free classes at the same time, so you can see whether the routine actually fits your day.
- If you are satisfied, you choose a plan and the classes continue. If not, you stop, and you owe nothing.
A parent sitting nearby for the first few classes is welcome. It is the quickest way to judge whether the teacher is patient and is really correcting mistakes, not just listening.

Searching from your city
The reasons people look for an academy differ from city to city. In Patna or Lucknow, the local madrasa class may clash with school and tuition. In Bengaluru or Chennai, the nearest academy can be an hour away in traffic. In Kolkata or Hyderabad, working parents often need a slot after office. We have written pages for many cities, for example Patna, Kolkata and Chennai. If you were simply searching nearby, our guide to Quran classes near me covers what to check in any local class.
